A slope that had stopped holding

The old boulder wall had lost its face and the grade was moving with it. We stripped it back, rebuilt on drainage stone, and set quarried limestone outcropping so the wall reads like it came out of the hill rather than off a pallet.

Forty years of rotting timber

Stacked landscape timbers had gone soft and started to lean over a shared walk — a liability the property could not defer another season. It came out in full and went back as engineered block with tiered beds, proper drainage, and handrails to code.

A patio is only as good as what is underneath it. Wisconsin ground freezes, lifts, and settles every year, and the difference between a surface that still sits flat in a decade and one that starts rocking by the third spring is almost entirely base preparation — how deep it was dug, what went back in, and how well it drained.

So that is where the time goes. Excavation to the right depth, compacted aggregate in lifts, drainage where the water actually wants to travel. It is the least photogenic part of the job and the only part that determines whether the photogenic part holds.

We run our own equipment and haul our own material, which means the crew that quotes your project is the crew that builds it — and the schedule does not depend on somebody else's truck.
